Congenital Heart Diseases among Children in Selected Hospital

Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common type of birth defect. As CHD accounts for frequent cause lethal malformation among infants, also considered a major problem affecting public health worldwide. Objective: To assess pattern congenital diseases and associated risk factors under-14 children admitted in selected hospital. Methods: It was cross sectional analytical study conducted purposively 111 Children Hospital treatment. Face to face interview collect data. The cases were included when diagnosis established by medical records echocardiography. Results: About 91% 9% came from <1 year 1-5 age group. Low weight normal 52% 48%. Pre-term term distribution 37% 63%. half respondents middle class. 26%, 25% 18% mothers consumed vitamin A (>10000 IU/d), anti-pyretics NSAIDs during pregnancy. 40% contaminated tap water 29% exposed radiation. Ventricular septal defect (40.5%) atrial (36.9%) prominent. Patent ductus arteriosus pulmonary stenosis 8.1% 5.4%. Statistical significant association found between ventricular weight, gestational monthly family income. like VSD, showed statistical with income, maternal rubella infection 6 months prior conception or 1st trimester. Conclusion: children. Maternal nutrition pregnancy should be emphasized due prevent low pre-term baby.
